After establishing her career at Vancouver Coastal Health and gaining extensive experienced in acute care, orthopedics and stroke recovery, Kim decided to help people who needed rehabilitation the most due to their limited mobility. She created Physio2U to help people who needed rehabilitation the most-the ones who have mobility challenges leaving their home. She believes in relationship-centred care and commonly uses manual therapy, exercise and functional retraining to achieve results.
Kim is a strong believer in life-long learning. Through the University of British Columbia, Kim has mentored internationally educated physiotherapists. In 2010, she created a community-based exercise program for people post-op total knee/hip replacements, called JR2, that runs in Richmond BC. In 2023, Kim received the prestigious Doctors of BC Excellence in Health Promotion Award for initiating this impactful program. Kim is an active member of the provincial Arthritis Continuing Education (ACE) Network, National Arthritis Health Professions Association (AHPA), SportMed BC, Physiotherapy Association of BC and the Canadian Physiotherapy Association. In April 2016, she was elected to the Board of Directors of the College of Physical Therapists of BC and is currently serving her third term.
Following a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of British Columbia (UBC), Hussam was volunteering at a physiotherapy clinic while exploring a career in medicine. His experience at this clinic led him to change his focus from medicine to physical therapy and he
went back to UBC to achieve his Masters in Physical Therapy in 2013. Hussam enjoyed the critical thinking and problem solving that came with this profession. In addition to his dedication to empowering lives with Physio2U, Hussam has a full slate of clients at busy clinics in Surrey and Mission for the past eight years exposing him to a wide variety of cases.
Hussam has pursued ongoing education to ensure he has a full toolbox of treatments, having completed certification in Intramuscular Stimulation (IMS) /Functional Dry Needling level 1 & 2, Selective Functional Movement Assessment (SFMA), and Y-Balance Test Certification. Above all Hussam enjoys building strong relationships with clients, integrating a client’s family life, work and passions in order to help them reach their personal goals.
“I approach mentorship as a partnership – I’m trying to pass down my knowledge and experience to someone, while understanding how best to go about that process in a manner that is most suitable to them. In addition, knowing when to be hands on and hands off is a key component to the learning process. I believe individuals learn best when they have the opportunity to learn via doing as opposed to being monitored at every moment. I aim to cultivate an environment where an individual’s creativity can shine and help in building the type of Therapist they aim to be.
One thing I learned early on in my career from a trusted mentor is: ask, ask, ask all the questions! It’s always good to learn and even better to surround yourself with those more knowledgeable. Don’t let unfamiliar situations intimidate you – Instead, use them as opportunities to learn, grow and gain confidence. Wake up each day with the drive to be better and push yourself!”
